Lil Wayne music biography continued...

the president of New Orleans-based Cash Money Records and the CEO of Young Money Entertainment. Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. on September 27, 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Lil' Wayne knew he wanted to be a rapper from the get-go and dropped out of school at age 13 to pursue a hip hop career. Lil Wayne songs were distinguished by the fact that they did not deal exclusively with adolescent issues nor did they use foul language (at the behest of Lil' Wayne's mother.)

After joining the Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne quickly became well-known through the group's platinum selling-albums Guerilla Warfare and Let Em Burn. The Cash Money label subsequently dropped the two other artists in Hot Boys and produced Lil Wayne as a solo artist. The gambit paid off as the album 500 Degreez sold massively, driven by the single "Way of Life." Lil' Wayne's status as a major rap artist was solidified with the release of his second solo album, The Carter, which put the hip hop world on notice that his rhymes could command not only a southern, but a national audience as well.
