Limp Bizkit music biography continued...
on drums, and guitarist Wes Borland completed the original foursome (later supplemented by DJ Lethal). Contrary to popular belief, the group did not take their name from the college fraternity game "limp biscuit," but from the way a friend of Durst's said his head felt when he was high. The group's big break came when they were selected as an opening act for a Korn tour and the band turned them onto their producer, who promptly got them signed to Flip/Interscope. Their debut album, released in 1998, was called Three Dollar Bill Y'All, and was backed by extensive touring, making Limp Bizkit one of the most hyped names in the emerging nu metal genre. Limp Bizkit's much-anticipated second album, Significant Other, was released in June 1999, and it and the accompanying video for "Nookie" made the group superstars. Significant Other debuted at number one and had sold over four million copies by year's end, also helping push Three Dollar Bill Y'All past the platinum mark.
After frontman Durst generated controversy by egging on an out-of-control crowd at Woodstock 99 and becoming an outspoken advocate of online music trading, Limp Bizkit embarked on a free Napster-supported tour and soon after released their third album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. The album set a record for highest week-one sales of a rock album with just over one million copies sold in the U.S. in its first week of release and went on to be certified Gold, Platinum and four times Multi-Platinum. After a much publicized split with guitarist Wes Borland and more controversy courtesy of frontman Durst, Limp Bizkit continued to perform and record, releasing their Greatest Hitz album in 2005.Though it did not do especially well on the charts, the group has held it together and Durst has fanned rumors are that a new album is in the works.
