Lisa Stansfield music biography continued...

Stansfield won a few talent shows as a young girl based on her strong singing. In 1983, she joined forces with her former schoolmates, Andy Morris and Ian Devaney (Stansfield's future husband), to form the group Blue Zone. They introduced her to DJ mixers Coldcuts, and this led to a collaboration with them on the 1989 single, "People Hold On," which held on to the top of the UK charts. Soon after, Stansfield was offered a solo record contract with Arista Records. Her debut album, Affection, was released in 1990, and spawned the international #1 hit "All Around the World," as well as several other hit singles. Affection went on to sell 5 million copies worldwide, and earned Stansfield the BRIT Award for Best British Newcomer in 1990, as well as the DMC Award for Best Artist and Best Album, the Silver Clef Award for Best New Artist, the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song ("All Around the World"), and the Billboard Award for Best Newcomer -- creating the perfect platform on which to continue recording.

Stanfield released Real Love in 1991, which spawned the hit singles "Change", "All Woman", "Time To Make You Mine", and "Set Your Loving Free". That year she won another BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist, while Real Love brought a 1991 Best Album DMC Award to Stansfield. Subsequent albums did not hold up as well commercially, but in 1998 Arista released Lisa Stansfield: #1 Remixes, which was a hit in Europe with two Top Ten singles: "People Hold On" (re-released as a dance mix by the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and "The Real Thing," and the Top 40 track "Never Never Gonna Give You Up" (a remake of Barry White's 1973 hit); upon being released in the US the album received some mainstream attention, but much more in the dance clubs where remixes were very successful. Following the release of "Face Up" in 2001, Stansfield parted ways with Arista after 18 years, and signed on to ZTT Records. She has continued to record and perform, still delivering the sensual blue-eyed soul that fans have come to know and love.
