Lloyd’s musical roots can be traced all the way back to the Radio Disney teen pop group, N-Toon, but he has grown leaps and bounds both physically and artistically since then. Born Lloyd Harlin Polite Jr. on January 3, 1986 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the R&B crooner outgrew Disney and was soon recognized by producer L.A. Reid. When Reid became head of the Def Jam label, he turned to Irv Gotti and his label-- The Inc. Gotti signed Lloyd and partnered the street-smart singer with fellow Inc. artist Ashanti for "Southside." People loved it. The single became the title of Lloyd's debut, Southside, released in July of 2004 with Joyce Irby and Gotti sharing the executive producer credit. Other Lloyd songs on Southside included “Forever” and “Let’s Cheat.”
Lloyd’s big breakthrough came in 2006, with a newly-recorded track titled "You", featuring previous-collaborator Lil Wayne. His second studio album, titled Street Love, was released in March 2007. It was also confirmed that Lloyd had joined Sho'nuff Records, though his contract with The Inc. Records wasn’t over, they were still promoting his single with Lil' Wayne . The single gained airplay on BET LATE and it was #1 on BET's 106 & Park Top 10 Live (it was "retired" from the countdown on March 13, 2007, after appearing for 65 days at #1, and has been placed in the show's Hall of Fame).
Most recently, he, and Lil Wayne, performed "You" on 106 & Park's 106& Party for New Years Eve and on Total Request Live in February 2007. His second single "Get It Shawty" had a video premiere and was released to radio in March. Street Love is album Street Love was certified Gold by the RIAA in April 2007. Lloyd’s Street Love was ultimately certified gold, platinum, and eight- times platinum for eight million copies sold. Like Marvin Gaye, R. Kelly and Boyz II Men before him, Lloyd is proudly carrying the R&B mantle into the new millennium and given time will have a repertoire as diverse and popular as these great soul superstars.
