MC Hammer is known as one of the most flamboyant entertainers of the 90’s. Hammer was born in Oakland, CA and was a member of an extremely religious family. He gained his nickname “Hammer” from dancing for fans at the Oakland A games were he was the batboy. Hammer’s next album titled Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em was a phenomenon. The first single was called “U Can’t Touch This” dominated radio and MTV. The single was so successful it won two Grammy’s for Best R&B Song and Best Solo Rap Performance. “Have You Seen Her” and “Pray” were also big hits off the album. Don’t Hurt Em went on to sell more then ten million records.
Too Legit to Quit was the next release from Hammer. The title track was another big hit and had a tour with lavish backup dancers, and singers to go with it. Hammer went on to release more hardcore rap songs which fans did not particularly like. Hammer slowly but surely feel out of the limelight and filled for bankruptcy in 1996.
