Motley Crue music biography continued...

Ferrana) and drummer "Tommy Lee" Bass decided to leave the bands they were in at the time and pursue a new project together. Bob "Mick Mars" Deal was hired to play guitar and "Vince Neil" Wharton was added as vocalist. They began playing at local clubs where they created a cult following for their stage theatrics and wound up attracting a manager who got them a record deal with Elektra in 1982. Their self-titled debut album, which was retitled Too Fast For Love, was released in 1983, but Motley Crue wouldn't break through until 1985's Theater of Pain, which contained the hit singles, Smokin' in the Boy's Room" and the power ballad "Home Sweet Home." The album went on to sell more than two million copies. Their next album, Girls, Girls, Girls, shot to number two on the charts in 1987, while the follow-up release, Dr. Feelgood peaked at number one. In addition to the platinum album sales, Motley Crue amassed a reputation as the ultimate live performers with elaborate sets and lighting, revolving drum platforms, pyrotechnics and dancing girls. Offstage, the band was living the rock and roll lifestyle as well, with celebrity marriages gone awry and various run-ins with the law, making Motley Crew a household name.

In the 1990s, the band hit the commercial skids with line-up changes and further personal trials and tribulations, even as they recorded their Greatest Hits compilation. In 2005, Motley Crue hit the road for a reunion tour that coincided with another greatest-hits compilation, Red, White & Crüe that included three new tracks, "If I Die Tomorrow" - penned by pop-punkers Simple Plan, "Sick Love Song" and a cover of The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man." All four members of Motley Crue convened in 2008 to record Saints of Los Angeles, a musical autobiographical companion to the band's 2001 tell-all book, The Dirt. A planned movie stalled in the production stages. The title track holds the honor of being the first single to be debuted in the influential Rock Band video game series, and the album debuted at Number Four, proving that a great rock band never dies, it just reinvents itself.
