and Yosef Wolde-Mariam (aka Critical; born in Norway of Ethiopian and Eritrean heritage), Madcon quickly established themselves by landing opening slots in tours by such stars as Destiny's Child, 50 Cent and Alicia Keys. Madcon released their first single "God Forgive Me" in 2000 (Virgin Records), but the first commercial breakthrough was with long time collaborators Paperboys with the hit single "Barcelona" in 2002. In 2004, Madcon released their first official album "It's All A Madcon" (AA-Recordings/Bonnier Amigo), which earned them a Norwegian Grammy and several other accolades. In 2005, Madcon broadened their exposure by becoming TV personalities on the Nordic music channel The Voice, while recording tracks for a new album. The reality show "The Voice of Madcon" became a huge success for both Madcon and the network, showcasing the behind the scenes life of the popular group. They achieved an even higher profile in 2007, when Tshawe was invited to join the popular Norwegian version of Dancing with the Stars, and was the final winner. The duo's second album, So Dark the Con of Man, was released in the UK in December 2007 off RCA and charted at #137. In Norway, the album was certified gold in three hours, and platinum in three days. Madcon broke through internationally with 2008's "Beggin" (which samples a 1968 Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons track) that earned the group several #1 chart positions in Europe and an overall #2 position on the European Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also achieved 7 x platinum status in Norway, becoming one of the biggest hits of all time in the Norwegian chart. In 2009, Madcon made their U.S. debut, successfully transitioning into another welcoming market.
