Daniel Häglund and singer/songwriter/guitarist Björn Dixgärd were in a band called Butler. Even after that group broke up, the pair continued playing and writing together, and eventually added guitarist Gustaf Noren, bassist Carl Johan Fogelklou and drummer Samuel Giers. By 1999, they were known as Mando Diao, having taken their name from one of Dixgärd's dreams. The now-renamed band made their first public performances in the clubs of their hometown Borlänge in 1999. They received great reviews from the press, which led to a record deal with EMI and the release of their first album in Sweden, 2002's Bring 'Em. The album contained early demo versions of their songs, partly recorded in Haglund's basement. In 2003 the album was released internationally by MUTE label, along with their debut single "Sheepdog." In 2004, the band was hailed in the music press as one of the best newcomer bands on the European scene. The album Hurricane Bar was released in 2004, followed by Ode to Ochrasy in 2006. In October 2007 Mando Diao released Never Seen The Light Of Day. Their latest album, Give Me Fire, and the first single, titled "Dance With Somebody," was released at #1 in Germany in January 2009, as Mando Diao laid claim to being one of Europe's most dominant garage rock bands in decades.
