Mandy Moore music biography continued...
However, the defining characteristic of the Orland, FL singer's career has been her reluctance to follow the same musical, fashion and personal trends set forward by those stars.
As a result, Moore's music is often viewed as somewhat more wholesome than the typical risqué pop being pedaled by underdressed starlets. However, her music is also considerably less popular. (Some may recall that Jessica Simpson started out on a similar note, presenting herself as an angelic minister's daughter singing g-rated songs, but eventually morphing into her current more MTV-friendly, Daisy Duke-wearing incarnation.)
Moore's early recordings were nearly indistinguishable from those of her peers. Her 1999 debut, So Real, included songs such as "Candy," which reveled in the sort of mindless dance-pop typical of the era.
As she got older, Moore moved into the acting realm, with roles in films such as 2002's A Walk to Remember.
2003's Coverage found Moore venturing away from teen-pop and tackling numbers by the likes of Carly Simon and Carol King.
Following a string of high profile romance, and break-ups, with the likes of tennis star Andy Roddick, actor Wilmer Valderama and actor Zach Braff, Moore came forward to discuss her bout with depression. In 2008 she launched a website (uPumpItUp.com) focused on issues related to women's health and well-being.
2007's Wild Hope found Moore abandoning her pre-fab pop background and taking a shot at the singer-songwriter genre. Her list of collaborators included former Avril Lavigne associate, Chantal Kreviazuk.
