his bedroom, and released it on his own label Last Space Recordings in 2006. The effort received some critical acclaim and the single Don't Fear polled at No. 26 in New Music Express's top 50 singles of 2006. Critical acclaim was followed by his first full album entitled We Can Create, released on Mute Records in May 2007. One Critic called it a "hugely ambitious, widescreen and epic record that recalls everything from far away electronics and skewed songwriting to euphoric sound-scapes." In support of the album Maps played the Latitude and Leads and Reading Festivals in England and toured playing the album's songs with a full live line-up for five dates in the U.S. in late 2007. In July, 2007 it was announced that We Can Create had been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, an annual award for the best album in the United Kingdom. Chapman may still be recording tracks in his bedroom, but he has reached a far larger audience than a closet musician could have ever hoped for.
