The son of Boogie Kings guitarist (and Louisiana Hall of Fame member) Ted Broussard, soul troubadour Marc Broussard is fulfilling his destiny as the Bayou’s answer to
Otis Redding. Born January 14, 1982, Marc’s career began with the release of several independent efforts, including 2002's Momentary Setback which spawned the hit "The Wanderer,” a song about discovering your true self. After the success of his debut album, the Lost Highway label culled “
Just Like That” from Setback for inclusion in 2003’s compilation Lost and Found, Vol. 1, alongside such artists as

Ryan Adams, the Jayhawks and
Lucinda Williams. That same year, he appeared on the
Bruce Springsteen tribute album Light of Day with "Back in Your Arms." Marc spent the autumn of 2003 touring, opening shows for the
Dave Matthews Band,
Maroon 5, and fellow singer-songwriter
Gavin DeGraw. A full-length second release, Carencro, named after Broussard's hometown, came out on Island Records in 2004 and was followed up with more extensive touring. In 2007, Marc released S.O.S.: Save Our Soul, an album consisting almost entirely of cover songs. The album was his first to reach the top 100 of the Billboard 200 in the U.S., debuting and peaking at #96: this had the effect of moving him up to the next level from the Top Heatseekers chart, which consists of albums by artists who have never reached the top 100 before.
Now in a multi-album contract with Atlantic, Marc has become one of the top soul stars to come out of Louisiana and is intent on giving back. He founded the “Momentary Setback Fund” to benefit victims of hurricane Katrina and hurricane Rita. All proceeds from his 2005 release, “Bootleg to Benefit the Victims of Hurricane Katrina” went to help rebuild Broussard’s home state. He is also involved in the United Way and Habitat for Humanity. In 2007 Broussard was also involved in an Entertain the Troops tour in the Middle East. Ultimately, fans may make Marc even more popular than his celebrated father, but there’s no doubt that he will remain faithful to his Cajun roots and upbringing.
