Mario knew he wanted to be a singer at age 4 and his mother supported his dream by buying him a karaoke machine. Mario also taught himself to play the piano, and used that skill to craft songs and melodies. After singing, "I'll Make Love To You" at a local talent show, he was discovered and signed on at age 11 by producer Troy Patterson. Mario went to Milford Mill Academy up until the tenth grade where he was inspired by his music teacher, and continued to compose. He was offered a record deal at age 14 b y Clive Davis and jumped at the opportunity. J Records released his self-titled debut in 2002 and it was an instant smash, reaching #4 on the R&B charts. Other Mario songs on the album included "Braid my Hair" & "C'mon." Mario's second album, Turning Point (2004) was an even bigger success, thanks in part to radio pay for the first hit single off the album, "Let Me Love You." That tune lasted at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks.
A teen heartthrob who also appeals to older audience, many critics have likened Mario music to the romantic ballads of Michael Jackson. Other influences on Mario include Stevie Wonder, Fernando & Q-Bah, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men, and Joe. Many more great things are expected of this ultra talented young man who is destined to become a classic R&B crooner.
