his family at two weeks of age, mainly showed early promise as an athlete, but nurtured his musical talent on the side. Without a clear idea of what he hoped to accomplish he moved to Nashville and started waiting tables while writing songs at night. A friend there introduced him to a youth minister at the First Presbyterian Church, who told Schultz that he would do well working with kids. Before he knew it, Schultz had become a youth minister himself, a role he relished. Soon Schultz started writing songs about people in the congregation and playing them at his church meetings. His performances became so popular that he arranged for a special benefit concert at Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium, where he caught the ear of execs at Myrrh Records, who signed him and released his self-titled debut album in 2000. Since then, Schultz has released four albums and has been nominated for numerous Dove Awards, winning his first at the 2006 Dove Awards when the CD/DVD Mark Schultz Live: A Night of Stories & Songs was named Long Form Music Video of the Year.



Because of his numerous accolades, Schultz has become one of the Christian format's core artists with seven chart-topping hits to his credit. He's also found success on mainstream radio, scoring an AC hit with "He's My Son." He has also become one of the industry's most successful songwriters, penning such poignant hits as "He's My Son," "Remember Me" and "Letters from War," which was selected as the centerpiece of the U.S. Army's 2004 "Be Safe—Make It Home" campaign. Schultz' hit, "Back in His Arms Again" was named BMI's Christian Song of the Year in 2003. "I Am the Way" was cited as the Christian Song of the Year by American Songwriter magazine in 2001. "I feel I know what I'm supposed to do in life—write songs, perform and communicate," says Schultz. His fans couldn't agree more.
