Marques Houston music biography continued...
an R&B/ group and as a solo act. Born August 4, 1981, in Los Angeles, California, Houston was a founding member of R&B group Immature/IMx, which included members Jerome "Romeo" Jones and Kelton "LDB." As part of IMx, Houston got his first taste of fame in 1992, when the group recorded "Tear It Up" from the soundtrack of the movie "Bebe's Kids." The L.A. trio's Virgin Records debut, On Our Worst Behavior, was a sensation among young record buyers. But it was the 1994 MCA follow-up Playtyme, featuring the Top 5 pop and R&B hit gold single "Never Lie" and a second gold single, "Constantly" that took Immature into the mainstream marketplace. Subsequent MCA albums (1995's We Got It and 1997's The Journey) kept the group in the forefront and with a name change to IMX, reflecting the group's coming-of-age and creative evolution, the team released Introducing IMx in 1999 and IMx in 2001. The group also branched out into film (such as House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute) and television (such as A Different World) before disbanding in 2002, leading Houston to the next phase in his artistic career.
In 2003, Houston began pursuing a solo career. Under his birth name, Marques Houston, he released his debut album, MH, in October 2003. The album featured the singles "That Girl", "Clubbin,' "Pop That Booty," and "Because of You". MH peaked at #20 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on the Top R&B and Rap Albums chart. He followed with 2005's Naked and 2007's Veteran, which both did well on the charts. "My aim has always been to make music that can make a difference in someone's life, and my greatest joy has always been knowing that a song I wrote or sung touched someone else," Houston has said. With millions of fans, it's a sure bet he's accomplishing just that.
