Matt Redman music biography continued...
Redman was leading worship songs during church services by the time he was fifteen. While Redman was involved in a number of church-related activities, he also communicated his message of faith through recordings. He came out with his debut album, Wake Up My Soul, on Kingsway Records in 1993. A solo acoustic set, it was followed by Passion For Your Name, with a full backing band and choir, in 1995. Redman's debut on Survivor Records, The Friendship and the Fear, was released in 1998 to critical praise. In 1999 Redman followed with The Father's Song. Critics noted Redman's ability to imbue his music with energy, even within a studio setting. "Matt Redman's worship records have always walked the knife's edge between the kind of ... restraint and elegance imposed by a recording studio and the dynamics dictated by the communal nature of the songs themselves," wrote Thom Jurek in All Music Guide. After this release, Redman went on a four year hiatus, but continued to pen tunes like Better Is One Day," "Once Again," and "Heart of Worship," which have become Christian classics. His songs were also popularized by Christian performers ranging from Michael W. Smith to Tree63 and the David Crowder Band. In 2002, he came back with his own album, Where Angels Fear To Tread, to fans who were jubilant to hear him again. In 2006, he released Beautiful News, another warmly received album. In 2009, Redman moved across the pond to Atlanta, Georgia to work with Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin to plant a new church. Redman, who came out with We Shall Not Be Shaken in August 2009, says his music is all about the message, not about him. Fans may beg to differ.
