Michael Bolton was a pop savvy record yet critics called it amateur at times. One of his first hit singles came from the Supremes called "Back in My Arms Again."
Bolton's first album had minimal success but his follow up, The Hunger, was packed with hit covers again. Otis Redding's "Sittin' on The Dock of the Bay" was so on point that many people thought Bolton was doing impressions. Another successful single off the album was "Georgia on My Mind," which helped the album reach the top of the charts.
Time, Love & Tenderness, was when Bolton began to loose his steam. Critics began taking his music as a joke because of his attempt at soul singing. Bolton continuously remade classics that were not received well. Bolton released several more albums but they were all written off by critics.
