Michael Johns Biography (Continued)

h a unanimous vote after singing Otis Redding's "I've Been Loving You Too Long", Simon Cowell noting that he is 'like a white soul singer'. In Hollywood, he sang Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" for his audition and received unanimous praise from the three judges. Johns was one of the first expatriates to make it to the Top 12 on American Idol, but in what was a shock to many, he was voted off the televised talent contest on April 10, 2008, after reaching the Top 8. His last song on American Idol was Dream On by Aerosmith performed on inspirational music week.

After he was eliminated on Idol, Johns received support from a host of stars ranging from Keith Urban to Dolly Parton, who reportedly asked him to perform a duet with her. He made the rounds on all the talk shows, and was invited to perform at several events, including David Forster’s one night tribute concert, David Foster & Friends on May 23, 2008 (also featuring Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, Charice and Josh Groban) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on the Las Vegas Strip. He returned to his native Australia in May 2008 for a promotional visit to Sydney hosted by Fox 8 and featured in many television, radio, newspaper, magazine and online articles. Meanwhile, here in the States, Johns has been bombarded with offers from several record labels and his confident that he will have his first solo album out by the end of 2009. The future does indeed seem bright for one of Australia’s favorite exports.
