Formed in 1988 in Arthus, Denmark, Michael Learns to Rock remains one of the most popular Danish bands ever and has also enjoyed great success in Asian countries. The group was formed around a tiny bar band fronted by vocalist Jascha Richter and his sister, plus guitarist Mikkel Lentz and drummer Kare Wanscher. By 1988, Richter's sister had left and bassist Soren Madsen completed the lineup. Michael Learns to Rock, which was hurriedly named after Michael Jackson when the band won a local talent contest and a manager, released their self-titled debut album in 1991. Continued...

In MLTR’s native country, it sold about 30,000 copies in just two months and was #1 on the charts for 5 weeks. In 1993 they released their 2nd album, Colours, which sold more than 1.1 million copies and became one of the best selling Danish pop-albums ever. It was distributed by Cleveland International in the United States, but the group hardly penetrated the American market. Still, the band picked up distribution for their follow-up album-- 1995's Played on Pepper—at the same time it were providing them with major successes in Denmark and the Pacific Rim. In fact, in Denmark the album sold about 100,000 copies in half a year, and the readers of the two Danish music magazines Mix and Vi Unge chose MLTR as Danish band of the year (1995) while “That's Why” was named Danish single of the year. In 1996 Paint My Love - Greatest Hits was released in Asia and sold more than 2.5 millions copies. All told, the album sold 3.4 million copies worldwide.



Soon after the release of Paint My Love, MLTR's members took a break to spend time with their families and develop projects on their own or in collaboration with other artists. In 2002, however, they regrouped without Madsen to release Blue Night, which was also distributed in the United States by Cleveland International. Successive albums "Take Me To Your Heart" (2004) and The Best of Michael Learns to Rock Live (2007), solidified their reputation as a clean-living, hardworking band with a loyal following. MLTR's music has been described as a Scandinavian glow that meets the international pop song. It’s a sound that has endeared them to audiences around the world for over two decades.
