Modest Mouse music biography continued...

the early 90s by vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Issac Brock who added bassist Eric Judy and drummer Jeremiah Green to make up the core line up. In 1996, the group released their debut album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About, on the independent label Up Records. It was followed the next year by The Lonesome Crowded West, which generated a buzz on the underground music scene for its dark, pessimistic lyrics centering on America's suburban underbelly. Modest Mouse signed with major label Epic Records and in 1999 released The Moon & Antarctica, which sold moderately well but garnered strong reviews. From 1999 to 2002, however, Brock was beset by legal problems, including a DUI conviction. As a result, Modest Mouse cut back on recording and touring and almost slipped off the music radar altogether. They returned with a different line-up in 2004's platinum-selling Good News for People Who Love Bad News, which scored two hits with "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty." The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Rock Album that year, and put Modest Mouse back in the spotlight. In March 2007 Modest Mouse released We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. It was the first Modest Mouse album to reach number one on the US Billboard 200 charts, and spawned the hit single "Dashboard", as well as "Missed the Boat" and "We've Got Everything." Over ten years after they were formed, Modest Mouse fulfilled their promise as yet another groundbreaking Seattle band.
