in several bands as a youngster. In 1973, at a time when many Brazilian artists were using anglicized names in attempts to break into the U.S. market, he released his first album, which featured "Feelings", the self-penned song that would later bring him world renown. The international release of "Feelings" sold over one million copies in the United States alone, and reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1975 and #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. Earning a gold record, "Feelings" was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1976, losing out to Judy Collins', "Send in the Clowns". In the same year Albert was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, but lost out to Natalie Cole. "Feelings" was subsequently covered by many artists ranging from Frank Sinatra to The Offspring. In 1986, however, Albert was hauled into court on plagiarism charges and was found guilty of lifting from the French song "Pour Toi", by French composer Louis Gaste. Afterword, Albert went into hiding for awhile. He presently lives in Italy, and still performs around the world.
