Natasha Bedingfield music biography continued...
with the release of her debut album Unwritten. She quickly earned triple platinum status in the UK, double platinum in Ireland, and gold in the US, Singapore as well as South Africa.
Bedingfield was born in Sussex, South England on November 26, 1981 and raised in Lewisham, New Zealand. Her family was very musical growing up, she and her siblings Daniel and Nikola formed a Christian worship band, that played a mixture of R&B and garage rock, named The DNA Algorithm. Her brother Daniel is also a recording artist noted for his smash hit "Gotta Get Thru This" in 2002. Natasha began writing songs when she was 12 years old and took a great liking to the process. Nevertheless, she pursued her studies studying psychology in university with her passion for music continuously on her mind. She knew that she would eventually break into the music industry as she had been complimented on her vocal abilities on several occasions, however fearing being molded by a record company she waited until she felt ready and able to represent her true, ideal self.
She signed her first contract in 2003 with Phonogenic Records. Her album Unwritten was released on two separate occasions, the first time in the UK in September 2004, and later in the US in July 2005. "Single" was the first song to be issued in the UK in May 2004 peaking at number three and spending a total of three weeks on the charts. Her second single, "These Words" proved to be a mass success occupying the number one spot in the UK and Ireland. Unwritten was released on September 6, 2004 and debuted at number one in the UK an accomplishment previously only made by Bonnie Tyler and Annie Lennox. The album sold over 900,000 copies and was certified 3x platinum. "Unwritten" was the third single, released which did not perform as well as the first two, only reaching number six on the charts.
"These Words" debuted in the US in May 2005 reaching the 17th spot on the Billboard Hot 100, while its video was excessively played on VH1 and MTV. The album was released on July 26, 2005 receiving moderate praise placing at number 26 on the charts and selling 30,000 in the first week. The second single "Unwritten" marked the beginning of her North American success. Despite its lackluster performance when initially issued, after 21 weeks the song peaked at number five and became one of the most successful songs of 2006 impressively selling over 1,000,000 digital downloads. "Single" placed on the Hot 100 receiving considerable airplay on the radio and on television with its video.
Natasha is expected to release her follow up album, Black Canvas, in September of 2006 in the UK and in mid 2007 in the United States
