Nick Carter music biography continued...
New York, Carter began his career in the late 1980s and covered a number of songs made popular by other artists. He formed a mini-vocal group with two other friends and met the manger Lou Pearlman, who added two other male singers and name the group The Backstreet Boys. The boy band became hugely popular in Europe and the United States in the late 1990s. With The Backstreet Boys, Carter had had 13 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and have sold over 100 million albums, which has made them the best selling boy band of all time. As their fame grew, Carter became known as the "cute" one and developed into a teen heartthrob, ranking #1 on the list of "Hottest Teen People Under 21" by Teen People magazine and being named "The Biggest Teen Idol" by Teen People magazine. He was also named one of People magazines "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 2000.
Carter lit out for a solo career in 2002, and released the album, Now Or Never, which reached #17 on Billboard 200 and was certified gold. The singles released by him during this period were "Help Me" and "Do I Have to Cry for You" both released in 2002 and "I Got You" which was released early 2003. That same year, Carter was named "The Sexiest Man in the World" in a CosmoGirl Magazine poll conducted by its readers. In 2003, he was working on another solo album, when he joined a reunited Backstreet Boys. The boy band came out with their comeback album, Never Gone, in 2005. The album debuted at #3 on the U.S. chart and #1 in several other countries around the world. Based on the strength of four hit singles, Never Gone was ultimately certified platinum. Their next album, Unbreakable, debuted at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 and put the world on notice that The Backstreet Boys, including Nick Carter, were committed to sticking around awhile.
