Nick Lachey music biography continued...
attended Cincinnati's well-regarded public School for Creative and Performing Arts, developing his vocal talent and aspiring to become an entertainer. He subsequently moved to Los Angeles and joined with his brother and two friends to form the boy band 98 Degrees. After paying their dues for several years, the outfit scored a record deal in the mid-90s with Motown Records. When their debut single, "Invisible Man" peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 1997, 98 Degrees was off to a promising start. They would go on to record three more albums, including 98 Degrees and Rising, their biggest hit, and sell over ten million records. In November 2003, Lachey debuted as a solo artist with the album SoulO. Despite his popularity on the reality television show Newlyweds with then wife Jessica Simpson, the album was a critical and commercial disappointment. Nevertheless, Lachey returned to the studio in 2005, and released "What's Left of Me," the first single from his sophomore album, in February 2006. The song quickly became a hit, reaching a peak position of #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The subsequent album of the same name was released in May 2006, and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, once again thrusting Lachey into the spotlight. Fueled by speculation that it was about his divorce to Jessica Simpson, the single "What's Left of Me" hit #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay in June 2006, and made Lachey once again a pop culture spectacle.
Lachey released his follow-up album, Coming Up for Air in October 2009 behind the singles "Temporary," which was co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi (she also sings it with Lachey as a duet), and "All In My Head." After splitting with his latest love, Vanessa Minnillo, Lachey seems ready to concentrate on his music, and that can only be a good thing for the pop star's millions of fans.
