parents, Kidman first appeared in film on a music video at age 15. Her big breakthrough in acting came in the 1989 film, Dead Calm. After several illustrious years in film work, Kidman was tapped to play the courtesan Satine in Baz Lurhman's Moulin Rouge, a musical comedy/drama loosely based on the opera La Traviata. Kidman had never sung professionally before, but her vocal performance in the movie earned a warm reception from critics, and her collaboration with Ewan McGregor on the soundtrack's "Come What May" peaked at #27 in the UK Singles Chart. Later she collaborated with Robbie Williams on "Somethin' Stupid", a cover of Williams' swing covers album Swing When You're Winning. It peaked at #8 in the Australian ARIAnet Singles Chart, and at 1 for three weeks in the UK. It was UK Christmas #1 for 2001. In 2006, she voiced the animated movie Happy Feet, along with vocals for Norma Jean's 'heartsong', a slightly altered version of "Kiss" by Prince, Tapped to play Claudia in the movie in the 2009 musical Nine, which is based on the 1982 Tony Award-winning musical of the same name, Kidman remains committed to exploring her musical gifts as well—something that fans around the world are indeed happy about.
