Nicole Scherzinger music biography continued...
Hawaii, to a Filipino father and a Russian/Hawaiian mother. She grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she took an early interest in the performing and went on to study theater arts at Wright State University, before putting her studies on hold in 1999 to sing backing vocals for the rock band Days of the New. In 2001, Scherzinger competed in the premiere season of The WB's television show Popstars, on which she earned a spot as lead vocalist in the all-girl pop group Eden's Crush. Their 2001 US single "Get Over Yourself (Goodbye)" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and they toured in support of both *NSync and Jessica Simpson. Their record label, however, ultimately went out of business and the group eventually disbanded. In May 2003, Scherzinger was tapped to join The Pussycat Dolls a burlesque troupe, which was being re-cast as pop group. With Scherzinger contributing lead vocals and a good deal of the songwriting duties, The Pussycat Dolls achieved worldwide success in 2005 with their album PCD. The album debuted at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart and produced the hits "Don't Cha", "Buttons", and "Stickwitu", the last of which earned the group a Grammy Award nomination. Following the departure of Carmit Bachar in March 2008, the group continued as a quintet and in 2008 released their second studio album, Doll Domination, which included the hits "When I Grow Up," "I Hate This Part" and "Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)," establishing Scherzinger as a major superstar.
Following the success of "Don't Cha" and the continuing rise of the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger recorded a series of duets and guest appearances, mostly with male vocalists. In 2005, she appeared on recordings by Shaggy, Vittorio Grigolo and Will Smith. In 2006 she sang on Avant's single "Lie About Us," and Diddy's hit "Come to Me" (which she also co-wrote). Scherzinger's first solo album is said to be in the offing, but has been postponed several times. Lately, the star has been talking about it again, hoping to collaborate with such top talent as will.i.am and Timbaland, to come up with an album that will "stickwitu."
