Oasis music biography continued...

Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul McGuigan (bass), and Tony McCaroll (drums). After spending several years as a guitar technician for an established group, Noel Gallagher returned to Manchester to find that his brother had formed a band. Noel agreed to join the band if he could have complete control of the group, including contributing all the songs; the rest of the band agreed and under the new name Oasis, they began a year of intensive rehearsing.
The group got their big break when they were discovered and signed by the head of Creation Records. Released a month before their debut album, the soaring ballad "Live Forever" became a major hit in England. The group's first record, Definitely Maybe, became the fastest-selling debut in British history, entering the charts at number one. Oasis mania continued throughout 1994, as the group began playing larger theaters and Oasis songs became all the rage. Their sophomore album, What's the Story Morning Glory? became an even bigger international hit, eventually being certified quintuple platinum in the United States Their third studio album, Be Here Now shattered sales records in the U.K. and nearly topped the U.S. charts, positioning the quintet as the de facto rulers of rock. However, following its release, infighting amongst band members, line-up changes and just general bad luck contributed to the band's decline. Eventually, they regrouped and in November 2006 released a "best-of" album entitled Stop the Clocks, which received great attention, especially in the UK, selling more than one million records in three months. In February 2007, Oasis received the BRIT Award for outstanding contribution to music.
The Gallaghers' bravado, open drug use, and general disrespect toward other artists have garnered the band much media attention over the years, with some detractors suggested that Oasis had merely mastered the musical ideas of others and haven't come up with anything original. But the band continues to endure and find an audience with their tough image, endearing pop melodies and defiant swagger. No doubt we have not heard the last of them.
