mpressive work was with the singles “Mr. Pitiful,” “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” and “I Can’t Turn You Loose.” Redding also played an important role in the careers of other soul artists in the 60’s. In 1967 he cut a duet album with
Carla Thomas,
King and
Queen. The duet had success with the hit “Tramp.” Redding also produced Arthur Conley’s “
Sweet Soul Music.” After having success producing other artists, Redding started his own label, Jotis, where he was involved in talent management, development, and production.
In 1967 Redding appeared at the Monterey Pop Festival playing to a predominantly white audience. After putting on the show of his life, Redding doubled his fan base. Redding’s unbelievable concerts showcased his remarkable voice and energy. Redding was tragically killed along with band members while on a plane to Wisconsin. He will always be remembered as a pioneer in soul music.
