Panic At The Disco music biography continued...

Disco quickly became one of the most popular bands of the dramatic emo genre.

Panic! At the Disco caught its big break when the band contacted Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. Wentz liked the band's music so much he signed it to his record label, Decaydance.

Upon releasing A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, the band was readily embraced by MTV, with dramatic songs and theatrical delivery making the group natural stars for music videos. Known for wearing costumes and make-up, the band's elaborate performance live shows have been known to include large scale circus and vaudeville themes, complete with troupes of actors and performers.

A strange, Vaudeville-themed video for "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies," proved to be among the band's biggest hits, with similarly long-titled songs such as "Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off," also faring well.

Singer Brendon Urie has a shaky voice that lends itself to semi-spoken singing, making him likeable but not terribly technically impressive. However, what he might lack in vocal skill he compensates for with his stage presence and charisma.

Like Fall Out Boy, the band is sometimes criticized for its emo style, precious lyrics and pun-filled titles, but fans have been supportive of the group nonetheless. The group has fared better with critic than fans, despite attempts to reject the emo title and strive for something more akin to the dramatic rock of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins or Pink Floyd.

Featuring lead-single "Nine in the Afternoon," the band's sophomore effort, Pretty.Odd., was released in 2008 and featured songs meant to be more upbeat and positive than the previous collection of songs.

Prior to the release of Pretty.Odd., the band announced that it was officially changing its name from Panic! At the Disco, to Panic at the Disco. A statement on the group's website said that the decision was made in part because the "!" was never officially meant to be part of the moniker.
