Paolo Nutini music biography continued...
and moved to London to pursue music when he was just 16. His performances won him appearances on Scottish and British radio, and eventually led him to a 2005 deal with Atlantic Record's British arm at the age of 18. Nutini was paired with Coldplay producer Ken Nelson, and dropped his first single, "These Streets" in the early summer of 2006. Behind some high profile performances such as opening for the Rolling Stones and others, Nutini's second single "Last Request," catapulted to #5 on the UK charts and spearheaded the movement of his debut album, These Streets to #3. The album went double platinum on the strength of four hit singles, and an American version was accordingly released in 2007. Many of the songs on These Streets, including "Last Request" and "Rewind", were inspired by Nutini's tumultuous relationship with his girlfriend at the time, and "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" was a true story about encounters with an older woman. These Streets, as Paolo himself puts it on his official website, "is a little glimpse of some of the experiences I have been through in the last three years." Nutini, followed up with a self-produced second album, Sunny Side Up in 2009, giving fans another taste of one of Scotland's most talented new musical exports.
