Born in New York in 1981, the heiress to the Hilton Hotel fortune attended a variety of schools, ultimately ceasing her educational pursuits before reaching the college level.




Seemingly always drawn to the spotlight, Hilton's career as a model began to flourish in her teens when she signed on with a variety of high-profile agencies, including Ford Models and another owned by Donald Trump.




Her party-girl socialite status (and high-profile sex-tape scandal) made Hilton a familiar face in the tabloids, and she eventually used this notoriety to land minor film roles ("House of Wax") and ultimately her own reality show with then-friend Nicole Ritchie, The Simple Life. The show found the wealthy friends spending time with normal families as fish-out-of-water comedy ensued, often making the show's stars appear ditsy, at best.




In addition to her almost universally panned film work, Hilton has also released an autobiography, assorted fashions and a perfume line.




In 1996, the heiress attempted to add pop music star to her ever expanding resume.




One All Music Guide entry declares that the music is, "...more fun than anything released by Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson..." and is "...shockingly good — and not just according to a grading curve for actors-turned-singers." While Hilton's self-titled debut received critical reviews were tinged with surprising optimism audiences weren't exactly eager to buy the album.




Featuring reggae-laced lead single, "Stars are Blind," the album was helmed by an all-star cast of players, producers and songwriters, a fact that has more to do with the album's palatability than Hilton's forgettable vocal delivery.




Unfortunately, the album disappeared from the minds and playlists of music fans almost as quickly as her films disappear from theatres (although many of them are in fact straight-to-DVD, such as National Lampoon's Pledge This! in 2006.




In 2007, Hilton became perhaps the least-likely inmate ever. Proving that money can't buy everything, the high-profile celebrity was forced to serve 45 days behind bars following after being convicted on charges of alcohol-related reckless driving.




In addition to her business and entertainment ventures, Hilton frequently makes celebrity appearances at assorted parties and opening night festivities for clubs and other attractions.




Over the years, she has proven that her role as a party fixture might not be all bad, as her frequent media quotes (and misquotes) seem to prove that she's perhaps better seen than heard.
