Paul Van Dyk music biography continued...

Brandenburg, Germany, Van Dyk grew up in East Berlin where he kept in touch with the world beyond the Berlin Wall by secretly listening to the popular but forbidden Western radio stations. By the early 1990's Paul van Dyk was spinning regularly at various clubs in Berlin before releasing his first album 45 RPM in 1994. But it wasn't until the release of his second album Seven Ways which catapulted him into the Top 100, followed by the release of his hit single "For An Angel," which began to earn him praise across the globe. By the time Paul van Dyk released Out There & Back in 2000, it became clear that the Berlin-based musician had far more to offer than traditional techno and trance that had already defined him as one of the most influential DJs and producers of all time. His first progressive trance compilation mix, Politics of Dancing, was released in 2001. After a relatively quiet 2002 (on the recording front), van Dyk returned with a mix-album/greatest-hits/DVD (Global), the soundtrack to a film (Zurdo), and a new production album (Reflections). PvD, as he has become known, received a Grammy nomination in 2005 for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Reflections - this marked the first time that the Recording Academy recognized this category and it made Van Dyk a true international star.

Van Dyk released the second volume of his Politics of Dancing mix album series in 2005 and returned with another studio album, In Between, in 2007. The album featured collaborations with David Byrne and Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls. Aside from his musical activity, Paul van Dyk has always dedicated a significant part of his life to politics and social justice. In 2004, he was the only electronic artist involved in a nationwide tour with the Rock The Vote campaign, urging America's youth to sign up to vote in the presidential election. It seems Paul Van Dyk's talent and good intentions know no bounds.
