Paulina Rubio music biography continued...
to become a performer. At ten years old, under the guidance of Miguel Bosé, she debuted in a children's pop group called Timbiriche. In 1991, Rubio left Timbiriche and focused on launching a solo career. In 1992, she released her solo debut album, La Chica Dorada (The Golden Girl) on the EMI label. The title track would go on to be one of her trademark songs. Rubio would record a few more albums with EMI, but it wouldn't be until 2000's album Paulina for Universal that she would break out of the pack of Latin artists clamoring for recognition. Paulina was nominated three times at the second annual Latin Grammy Awards for "Album Of The Year," "Song Of The Year," and "Best Female Pop Vocal Album" and became the winner of multiple awards. Paulina became Rubio's first # 1 album on Billboard's "Top Latin Albums" chart, as well as the highest selling Latin album of 2001. Rubio's arrival in the American market came with 2002's Border Girl, which peaked at # 1 in Mexico and Spain, and at #9 in Canada. In the US, the album debuted at #11 on the "Billboard Top 200 Album" Chart and was certified double platinum selling over 2 million copies, and solidifying Rubio's status as an international star.
After a break of a couple of years, Rubio came back in 2004 with Pau-Latina, which won several awards during the year and was nominated for a Latin Grammy for "Best Pop Female Vocal Album" in 2004. In 2005, she was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Latin Pop Vocal Album." She was the only woman nominated in that category. Rubio continued her chart domination with 2006's album Ananda, which reached the #1 spot in the U.S. and countries all over Latin America. It reached #25 on U.S. Billboard's "Billboard Hot 200" albums chart, and it reached the #1 spot on Billboard's "Top Latin Albums." Rubio followed with 2009's Gran City Pop, a collaboration with several top composers, and a return to form for Mexico's top Golden Girl.
