Peter Frampton music biography continued...

1950, in the town of Beckenham in Kent, England, Frampton started playing guitar at age eight, and took several years of classical lessons, before joining several different rock and roll groups as a teen. He would go on to record several hit singles with a group known as the Herd, before striking out on his own with 1972's Wind of Change. He would start to break through in 1975, with the album Frampton, which climbed into the Top 40 in the U.S. and eventually went Gold. His biggest success, however, came around the corner with Frampton Comes Alive!, a live double album recorded in San Francisco, which featured expanded songs, talk-box guitar effect and all the energy that was missing from Frampton's studio recordings over the years. The album was a surprise smash, catapulting to the top of the charts and selling over 16 million copies worldwide to become the most popular live album yet released. It stayed on the charts for nearly two years, and spawned Frampton's first three hit singles: "Baby, I Love Your Way" and the Top Tens "Do You Feel Like We Do" and "Show Me the Way." Fans knew Frampton had finally arrived when Rolling Stone Magazine named him Artist of the Year in 1975.

A series of setbacks, both personal and professional, would haunt Frampton in the years following Frampton Comes Alive, and he would never again reach the heights of fame that he did with that album. But, he would continue to record and perform. After 1986's Premonition, his reentered the public spotlight and began touring as a lead guitarist with longtime friend David Bowie. With the successful release of his 1994 self-titled album followed by Frampton Comes Alive II (1995), he re-embraced his old fans while also attracting a new generation of rock enthusiasts. In the meantime, his 2007 album Fingerprints won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album, proving that Frampton still retained his relevance as a contemporary artist.
