One of the leading bands in the 70s power pop explosion, Pilot originally formed in 1973 with band members including David Paton (bass and vocals), Billy Lyall (synthesizer, flute, and vocals), and Stuart Tosh (drums). The group, all hailing from Scotland, added a few additional members along the way including two former members of teeny bopper band, the

the pop charts, "Just a Smile" and "
January”, which shot up to #1 on the charts. All of these tunes were produced by Alan Parsons. More albums followed (1976's Morin Heights and 1977's Two\'s a Crowd) as well as a few more moderate-sized hit singles ("Call Me Round," "Just a Smile") before
Pilot folded and band members went out on their own or joined other bands, but eventually they joined together to become the initial core of the Alan Parson's Project. Critics have said that Paton is a one of a kind vocalist and Barinson one of the best, most tasteful guitarists around. For fans of soft rock that enjoy good pop music with great tunes and catchy hooks, Pilot can’t be beat.
