Pink music biography continued...

teen pop act, she eventually outgrew her mistaken identity showing the world what she really represents. She is now recognized for her vocal skills and positive message to young women as well as a supporter of animal rights as a prominent member of PETA. Her stage name P!nk was given to her as a nickname when she was younger by her friends.

P!nk was born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania into a musical family, as her father played guitar and often sang to her as a child. At the age of 14, she began writing songs and eventually sang at a local club once a week where she was discovered by an MCA record executive. She soon became part of a female pop group named Basic Instinct who split before they could even complete an album. She was then recruited for R&B trio, Choice, signed to LA Reid and Babyface's label LaFace. During this time Moore was able to showcase some of her writing skills and impressed Reid. Choice soon split due to differences in musical direction, yet Pink was given a solo record deal shortly after.

Can't Take Me Home was released on April 4, 2000. The album included several dance-pop and R&B hits. The singer later explains that she did not care for her image or the musical style represented on the album and complains that she was denied any creative control. The album eventually went double platinum due to its two top ten hits "There You Go" and "Most Girls". In 2001, she collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Mya, Lil' Kim on the re-make of Patti Labelle's hit "Lady Marmalade". The track was produced by Rockwilder and Missy Elliott for the film Moulin Rouge. The infamous song was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

Her second album, M!ssundaztood was slightly different than the first as she came across as a more serious musician and songwriter. The album thrived on its personal approach that exuded a harder edged version of P!nk. The double platinum selling album, released in 2001, was in large part co-written and co-produced by Pink and Linda Perry (former lead singer of 4 Non Blondes). The first hit was "Get the Party Started" which placed in the top 5 on the US charts. Other popular singles from this album include rock inspired hits like "Just Like a Pill" and "Don't Let Me Get Me". P!nk had become the best selling female artist internationally.

Try this was the next album issued in early November of 2003. P!nk continued to generate rock-oriented tracks having collaborated with punk band Rancid's frontman, Tim Armstrong. He had co-written eight of the thirteen songs on the album, one of them "Trouble" which earned Moore a Grammy Award in 2003 for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. Try This did not advance as well in the US as it did in Europe, particularly Britain. Therefore, the singer embarked on a European tour making no plans to perform in the US.

Pink released I'm not Dead in April of 2006 shortly after marrying motocross racer Carey Heart in January. The album's first single "Stupid Girls" had created much controversy before it was even issued. The song depicts the hypersexual female pop icons that young girls unfortunately try to emulate today. Through the song, Pink wanted to criticize the lack of positive role models in our society and encourage young females not to be afraid of their differences and to strive on their independence.
