Mississippi, Ray J moved to Carson, California with his sister, the singer Brandy, along with his parents when he was still a toddler. Landing in the center of the entertainment industry, Ray started auditioning for commercials at age eight, scoring several gigs until he caught the eye of comedian Sinbad, who was casting children for his upcoming TV show. Ray J got the role playing Sinbad's foster son until the show was canceled in 1993. From there, he began acting in movies, appearing in the films Steel and Mars Attacks! in minor roles. Still eager to establish a career in music, he signed with Elektra in 1995, recording Everything You Want the following year a rap album with a set of superstar songwriters and producers behind it. The album did not do well, and he was dropped by Elektra. However, in 1999, he was picked to co-star in his sister's series, Moesha, which gave him even further exposure. In 2001, he released This Ain't A Game, which was a more pop oriented songs than his debut, but did not fare that well either. Four years before he returned to music, but despite the lengthy absence, his high profile still commanded an all-star gust list. With help from Timbaland, R. Kelly, Mya, and Fat Joe, Ray J resurfaced with Raydiation by Sanctuary. The album was hailed as a revelation that showed the more introspective side of Ray and proved that his big sister wasn't the only talented soul singer in the family.



More recently, Ray signed with Koch Records and came out with his fourth album-- All I Feel, which features The Game, and remixes with Manny and Gil (MP Productions) among others. Released in April 2008, the album's first single was "Sexy Can I" featuring rapper Yung Berg peaked at number three on the Top Singles (Hot 100) for six weeks. With it, Ray firmly moved out of Brandy's shadow and established himself as a star in his own right—something fans were ecstatic about.
