Robin Thicke music biography continued...
son of actor/songwriter Alan Thicke and his first wife, actress and vocalist Gloria Loring. Robin began writing songs by the time he was 13 and turned professional three years later, ultimately writing hits for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Mya, Brandy, Marc Anthony, and Jordan Knight. In 2000, Robin, who simply went by his last name Thicke, went to work on material for his debut album, initially entitled Cherry Blue Skies. In 2002, he released his debut single, "When I Get You Alone," which became a modest international hit and prompted the release of his debut album under a different name—A Beautiful World—in 2003. Robin's breakthrough would come, however, with the 2006 album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke. The first single, "Wanna Love U Girl," was a hit in the UK, as was the accompanying video, for which Robin changed his appearance, cutting off his trademark long hair. His second single, the ballad "Lost Without U" began getting a lot of radio airplay in urban radio stations towards the end of 2006 and early 2007, and became a breakout hit, reaching as high as number fourteen on the Billboard Hot 100, and number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, the first Caucasian artist to top that chart since George Michael. Evolution went on to become certified platinum and garner Robin a Grammy Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, signifying his musical arrival. Robin returned in 2008 with the album Something Else, which was described as "a joyful and modern tribute to the '70s soul and pop records that have inspired an extraordinary career." And one, we hope, that is just hitting its stride.
