Blend country music and comedy with constant touring, and you have the cultural phenomenon known as
Rodney Carrington. Born October 19, 1968 in Longview,
Texas, Carrington made a name for himself with relentless appearances on popular
AM radio programs singing such tunes as “Titties and Beer” and “When My Wife Met My Girlfriend.” This combined with perpetual touring in comedy clubs throughout the United States, made him a cult comedy hero. In June 1998, Covington released his first album, Hangin With Rodney, which was recorded at clubs in Texas, North Carolina and

Indiana. Of the album, one critic said: “Rodney Carrington likes keepin' it rude, lewd, and crude.” The raunchy Texan comedian's inner horny adolescent raged on and on in these fast-talking routines, the most famous of which was “A Letter to My Penis.” Carrington also managed to find time to humorously tell us just how he felt about marriage and kids, going to church, and shopping for caskets. Through the years, hilarious Rodney Carrington songs have also taken on Latin lovers, grandpa and the artist formerly known as
Prince. In 2004, he came up with his greatest hits disc, which collected all of his great songs and routines from years past, including “Dancing With a Man” and “Fred.”
All in all, Carrington has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and even had his own short-lived television sitcom in 2004 called “Rodney.” Rodney released his 7th album
King of the Mountains, in April 2007, and had his first HBO comedy special shortly thereafter. In May 2007 he released his first DVD entitled "Rodney Carrington: Live at the Majestic.” Fans of Rodney enthused: “The best thing about Rodney is that he's always fresh. He very rarely uses his old bit, so each time you see him, you're in for surprises, and this one was no exception.” Though Rodney has evinced more a conservative streak since his ABC program failed, he still retains the bawdy edge that first endeared him to fans almost a decade ago.
