For some the very definition of rock and roll, The Rolling Stones have remained one of the most popular and productive acts in rock history for well over three decades. The group was formed in 1962 by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who met as schoolmates in Dartford, Kent. The legend has them bumping into each other on the platform at Dartford railway station, where Keith noticed a blues album under Mick's arm. In 2005, the released an album called A Bigger Bang, which was accompanied by their highest-grossing tour to date and lasted into late summer 2007. During the 1969 American tour, tour manager Sam Cutler introduced them as "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World” and their image of unkempt bad boys is one that many musicians still emulate to this day.
According to Rolling Stone Magazine, “The Rolling Stones' music, based on Chicago blues, has continued to sound vital through the decades, and the Stones' attitude of flippant defiance, now aged into wry bemusement, has come to seem as important as their music.” With this kind of assessment, it seems likely that the Rolling Stones will continue playing until Mick Jagger’s last breath and Keith Richards’ last chord. And there’s every reason to be jubilant about this.
