Keating was working at a local store when he noticed an advertisement for auditions being held for a boy band. Keating, 17 at the time, tried out and beat out 300 other hopefuls for a spot as the lead singer in what turned out to be Boyzone, one of the biggest European pop rock acts of the 90s. Debuting in 1993, Boyzone's first twelve singles reached the top five and they became the first Irish act to have four number one hits in the United Kingdom. Their 1998 tour of Ireland shattered all sales records when 35,000 tickets were sold out in four hours. All in all Boyzone released four albums, every one debuting at number one in the U.K. The group split up in 1998, and Keating was looking for other challenges. He broke into television presenting The Eurovision Song Contest and Miss World, before landing a prime-time slot in 1999 as host of the UK talent show Get Your Act Together. At the same time, Keating was preparing to establish himself as a solo artist, debuting in August with a cover version of Keith Whitley's country hit "When You Say Nothing At All". Taken from the soundtrack of the hit movie Notting Hill, the song raced to the top of the UK singles chart. Further solo success followed a year later with the chart-topping "Life Is A Rollercoaster." Both hits were included on his debut Ronan, which also featured contributions from Bryan Adams and Barry Gibb. The follow-up, Destination, included the UK chart-topper "If Tomorrow Never Comes." By this time, Keating had proven himself a durable talent.



Keating continued to record as a solo artist throughout the first decade of the new millennium, achieving such hits as "I Love It When We Do" and "I've Got My Heart on You." In 2005, he released a retrospective entitled Ten Years of Hits, encapsulating his career as a solo artist. In 2007, he reunited with Boyzone for several U.K. performances. While Keating continues to mature as a solo artist, he has never strayed too far from his Dublin roots, and that's one thing fans appreciate.
