Sabrina music biography continued...
Norma Sabrina Salerno, Sabrina won a beauty contest and appeared on television, following these triumphs with her debut single "Sexy Girl" in 1986, Sung in English, it became a Top 20 hit in her native Italy and in Germany. In late 1987, she released her first album, Sabrina, which was sung in English. In addition to "Sexy Girl", the album included Sabrina's international top five hit "Boys (Summertime Love)", which has sold more than 1.5 million copies to date worldwide, and "Hot Girl", a top 20 hit in several European countries. In the summer of 1988, she enjoyed another European-wide hit with the single "All Of Me (Boy Oh Boy)" (produced by Stock, Aitken & Waterman). Later in that year, her second album, Super Sabrina, was released, and she established herself as a hot European sex symbol thanks to the raunchy videos that accompanied hits such as "My Chico" (#1 in Italy) and "Like a Yo-Yo" (produced by Giorgio Moroder). At the height of her fame, Sabrina performed before 50,000 screaming fans at a concert in Moscow, and also appeared at large arenas throughout Europe.
1991 marked a turning point in Sabrina's career: she performed a duet with Italian singer Jo Squillo called "Siamo Donne", her first release in the Italian language. Sabrina's third studio album, Over the Pop, was released the same year, and for the first time she was allowed to co-write and produce some of the songs. Intent on leaving her sex symbol image behind, Sabrina was at odds with her record label, which ultimately dropped her. She continued to record on independent labels, however, releasing such tunes as "Rockawillie" and "Angel Boy." Soon after, she established her own recording studio in Treviso and released her first Italian language album, Maschio Dove Sei. A commercial disappointment, in 1999, Sabrina released a new album in English called A Flower's Broken. Sabrina continued to perform her classics and new songs at concerts throughout Europe and remains a big draw to this day.
