Shania Twain music biography continued...
pursuing a music career for many years, she finally caught her big break when entertainment lawyer Dick Frank heard her sing which led her to signing her first record contract with Mercury Nashville Records. This is where she changed her name to Shania, meaning "She's on her way" which was created by her adoptive Ojibwa father.
Her first album called simply, "Shania Twain" was released in 1993 and didn't do as well as she would have hoped only selling fewer than 250,000 copies.
She didn't reach real success until she met rock producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange who offered to write and produce her songs. Eventually, the two married on December 28th 1993.
With the couple working together, Shania went on to release her second album in 1995 entitled The Woman in Me which catapulted her into the music scene. The album has since sold over 12 million copies.
Her next album called Come on Over which was released in 1997 is not only the biggest-selling album of all time by any female artist but also the biggest-selling country album of all time. This album also won her four Grammy Awards.
After the enormous success of the previous album, Twain, took a break where she had a baby. Two years went by and she decided to get back to the studio. She then released Up! which has sold over 17 million copies worldwide. In 2004, she released a Greatest Hits album which has sold 7.5 million copies worldwide.
