Skid Row music biography continued...
and former Bon Jovi guitarist Dave "The Snake" Sabo. The pair rounded out the lineup by adding guitarist Scott Hill, drummer Rob Affuso, and vocalist Sebastian Bach. After playing to enthusiastic crowds locally, the band convinced Sabo friend Jon Bon Jovi to score them a deal with his label, Mercury Records. In 1989, the band released their first album, Skid Row, which went multi-platinum on the strength of the Top 40 singles "18 and Life" and "I Remember You." Though Bach subsequently got embroiled in controversy for perceived anti-gay sentiments, and the band realized that their record contract was not fair, the bane came back in 1991 with Slave to the Grind. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard chart, an unprecedented feat for a metal band. With the grunge uprising of the next few years, Skid Row laid low, though they continued to garner critical praise. They returned in 1995 with Subhuman Race, which surprisingly charted in the Top 40 but otherwise did not attract any real attention. During the tour to support the album, tensions ran high amongst the band members, and soon after Skid Row fell apart as members dropped out to pursue solo careers. Still, by 1996, the band had amassed over 20 million in album sales. In mid-2000, Skid Row re-formed with new singer Johnny Solinger and toured as the opening band for Kiss' farewell tour. They released Thickskin with Solinger in 2003, followed by Revolutions Per Minute in 2006. As of 2008, Skid Row had released five full-length albums, an EP, a compilation album, and a live album, leaving longtime fans of glam metal clamoring for more.
