Stevie Nicks music biography continued...

Lynn Nicks on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, Nicks got a guitar and composed her first song at age 16. During her senior year in a California high school, Nicks met Lindsey Buckingham and they joined a short-lived band called Fritz. Nicks and Buckingham put out a self-titled album in 1973, which caught the attention of the England-based band Fleetwood Mac. The two joined the band in 1975, and Nicks was a part of the self-titled debut which was a smash hit, topping the pop charts in 1975 and had three top twenty songs in 1976. Nicks' signature song off the album, "Rhiannon," reached #11. The band later released the album Rumours in 1977, which sold 17 million copies and went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all-time, with a No. 1 position on the charts for 31 weeks. Nicks' contributions were "I Don't Want to Know", "Gold Dust Woman", and "Dreams", which became the band's only Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit single to date. During recording sessions for the album Tusk in 1979, Nicks began laying down early demos for a solo album. Nicks released Bella Donna in July 1981, and it reached #1 on the Billboard 200 in September. All four of its singles charted on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," a duet with Tom Petty and "Leather and Lace," a duet with Don Henley. It was clear that either in a group or solo, Stevie Nicks was a superstar.

In 1982, Fleetwood Mac reunited to release another hit album, Mirage, which spawned the hit "Gypsy." Over the next few years, Nicks released two more hit albums, The Wild Heart and Rock A Little, while taking a hiatus from music to be treated for drug addiction. Nicks officially left Fleetwood Mac in 1993, but in a wave of reunion tours, she rejoined the band in 1997. She also continued to record as a solo artist, coming out with such albums as The Dance (1997), Enchanted (1998) and Trouble in Shangri-La (2001). In 2001, she reunited with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, to once again tour and record; a decision that was greeted by rapture from her millions of fans.
