formed in 1998 with Mutya Buena, Siobhan Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan. Mutya and Keisha have been friends since they were 8 years old. They met Siobhan at a party and soon discovered that they loved to sing and decided to form a group called "Sugababes". They chose the name at the age of 12 and 13 because at the time they still liked eating baby food. They found a manager and were signed to London Records and began working on their debut album—One Touch—which came out in 2000. Thought it was a critical success, sales were less than stellar and London dropped the girls. After Donaghy left the group and was replaced by Heidi Range, they were signed to Island Records, which released their second album—Angles With Dirty Faces in late 2002. The album spawned to hit singles, "Freak Like Me" and "Round Round," which both peaked at #1 on the U.K. charts. The group's third album Three was released in late 2003 and Nominated for a Brit Award for Best Album, as well as Best Group and Best Dance Act, continued success reaching number three on the UK Album Chart, preceded by the hit single "Hole in the Head". It was the group's third UK number one single. It also became the babes' first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit the U.S. Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, demonstrating that the girls were a smash on both sides of the pond.



To date, the trio are one of the most influential and most successful girl groups in the UK, with sixteen of their twenty-two releases achieving top 10 chart success in their native UK; the most recent being "Girls" which reached #3 in October 2008. The group have so far attained platinum album sales from five of their albums in their native UK. They are bent on making more of an impression in the United States and have signed on to work with such hot American talent as Timbaland and Gnarls Barkley. With contributions from these players, the babes' fervent teen following is only likely to grow.
