T-Pain music biography continued...
fans. T-Pain's first foray into music industry was a productive one. He was one-fifth of the rambunctious rap outfit Nappy Headz who enjoyed moderate success in the early 2000's with regional anthems "Robbery" and "F.L.A." He soon went out on his own, however, and built a name for himself on local radio, where he caught the ear of Akon and was signed to his first record deal. Incorporating a soaring chorus, soulful handclaps and Florida grooves, T-Pain broke out on his own with 2005's album Rappa Ternt Sanga, and the single "I'm Sprung," which tackled the maddening joy of finding a new love. This was followed by the equally successful single, "I'm N Luv (Wit A Stripper), an appreciative tune about the girls of the clubs. T-Pain sold a combined five million ring-tones of "Stripper" and "Sprung," demonstrating that his laid-back electro style was head and shoulders above his fellow rap/soul artists.
T-Pain's sophomore effort, Epiphany was released in June 2007. It has been called personal without being pretentious, offering listeners a variety of musical styles that range from the snappin' first single "Buy U a Drank" (featuring Yung Joc) to the rebel reggae furor of "Shotz" to the deep message of "Suicide." Clearly, T-Pain has established himself as a monumentally talented singer/songwriter and producer who is not afraid to go his own way.
