Taylor Dayne music biography continued...

in Long Island, New York, Dayne had her eye on show business from the start. Her nights were spent performing at New York City nightclubs, and her days were consumed with the study of music theory and composition at college, as well as private operatic training with Juilliard master Maestro Carelli. In 1985, she met producer Ric Wake who would move on to projects with Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Barry Manilow. The two collaborated on Dayne's fist single, "Tell It To My Heart," which instantly soared to the top of the dance charts, and garnered her a deal with Arista. Her 1988 debut album of the same name yielded three more Top Ten hits—"Prove Your Love," "I'll Always Love You," and "Don't Rush Me" and pushed the album into double platinum territory. Dayne spent the summer of that year as the opening act for the European leg of Michael Jackson's "Bad" tour, and then went to work on her second album. Can't Fight Fate was released in 1989, also went double platinum and occupied four slots in the Top Ten with "With Every Beat Of My Heart," "Love Will Lead You Back," "I'll Be Your Shelter" and "Heart of Stone." It seemed that overnight, Dayne had become a pop superstar.

Due to changing musical tastes, Taylor's 1993 release with Arista, Soul Dancing, didn't enjoy quite the same success as its predecessors. Citing creative differences, Dayne left Arista in 1994, shortly before the release of Taylor Dayne: Greatest Hits. Taylor's departure from Arista evolved into a four-year hiatus from the music scene entirely, during which time she tried her hand at acting. In 2000, she returned to music recording the track "Planet Love" for the soundtrack to the movie Flawless. It rose to #1 on the dance charts, bringing a young new audience into the Dayne fold. After taking more time off to start a family, Dayne returned in 2007 with the #1 dance single, "Beautiful" off the album Satisfied. Luckily for us, Dayne is never satisfied to rest on her laurels.
