Technotronic music biography continued...
living in Belgium who had already had some limited success in the music business. Bogaert brought together DJs, Ya Kid K (born Manuela Barbara Kamosi Moaso Djogi, 1972, in Kinshasa, DR Congo) and MC Eric (born Eric Martin, 1970, Cardiff, Wales). Their first single, "Pump Up the Jam" became and unexpected international hit, hitting #2 on the US's Hot 100 in late 1989/early 1990, and becoming the first-ever house record to break through to the pop mainstream. The song and its video were fronted by Zairian-born fashion model named Felly Kilingi, which gave it even greater international allure. That success led to the debut of Pump Up The Jam—The Album, which featured tracks by Ya Kid K and MC Eric, as well as a live opening-act slot for Madonna and appearances on late night television in the US. It was at this time that Ya Kid K. stepped forward as Technotronic's actual vocalist after it was revealed that Felly was merely lip-synching to the vocals of "Pump Up The Jam." Three follow-up singles, "Get Up! (Before The Night Is Over)," a #7 hit in the US and a #2 hit in the UK; "This Beat Is Technotronic" and (US Dance #3, UK #14); and "Move That Body" (UK #12), also hit the Top 10 in many countries, and the album eventually climbed into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 in the US, making Techtronic an international phenomenon.
Techtronic followed with the LP Trip On This: The Remixes, and in 1992 Ya Kid K went solo, albeit with Bogaert still producing. Her debut album, One World Nation, scored with the hit "Move This," originally a Technotronic track released as a single after finding success in a Revlon commercial. Techtronic reunited in 1995 for the album Recall, but it did not enjoy much success. The outfit continues to record, always reminding fans of their vast accomplishments during their heyday.
