honed his tenor voice in a church choir. Campbell was discovered by Quincy Jones in 1989 at age 11, and recorded the tune, "Tomorrow" on Jones' Grammy Award-winning album Back on the Block. At the time, Campbell was compared to Michael Jackson, and hopes were sky high for his recording career. He worked with another musical giant the next year, singing "Round and Round" on the soundtrack of Prince's Graffiti Bridge film, landing his second top five song on the Soul charts. Campbell's highly anticipated debut album, T.E.V.I.N., was released in 1991 and was a huge success, boasting two number one Soul hits, "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" and "Alone With You" and landing in the Top 10 on the soul album charts. Campbell appeared ready for real superstardom and he fulfilled his promise on the next album, 1993's I'm Ready, which yielded the hit singles, "Can We Talk," as well as the title track. But soul world was changing as was Campbell's voice, and his next album, Back to the World, was a huge dud, failing to make an impression with soul or pop audiences. His 1999 self-titled release did even more poorly, and by the time he was 21, his career as a recording artist was over. After a half decade away from the musical scene, in 2005 Campbell was cast in the stage musical Hairspray, a valiant attempt to resurrect his career.
