r Thalia to fill. At the same time, the future star raised her profile by performing in several Spanish language soap operas. In 1995, En Extasis was released, Thalia's first album after having signed with EMI Music Mexico. The album, which was produced by Gloria Estefan's husband, Emilio Estefan, as well as Oscar Lopez, was number one for several weeks. The success of the album broke records in twenty countries and received many honors for the amount that it sold in Central America. After the success of En Extasis and her success as an actress, Thalia became recognized worldwide, creating an international fan base for the artist, which ultimately resulted in several more successful albums.
Thalía's 2002 album, Thalia, was largely written and produced by Estéfano, the hitmaker who had taken Paulina Rubio's career to megastar heights two years earlier with Paulina. Buoyed by a pair of chart-topping singles ("No Me Enseñaste" and "Tu y Yo"), this album was Thalía's first to hit number one on the Top Latin Albums chart, reaching number 22 on the overall Billboard 200 chart, which itself was a supreme feat for a Spanish-language artist. Following this, Thalia tried to crossover to the United States market with English language versions of her songs, but met with limited success. Her celebrity remained intact, however, when she married music industry titan Tommy Mottola (Mariah Carey’s ex) in a reportedly $3 million wedding. From humble origins, Thalia has parlayed her looks and talent into worldwide stardom that her many admirers simply cannot resist.
